Researchers in Japan and Australia have managed to haul teleportation a little closer to reality.  We’re now that little closer the a future where quantum computers will be on your desktop, which is, to say the least, not very close at all but still.

What they have done is successfully teleport a complex set of quantum information that existed in a state of quantum superposition, meaning that it existed in two different states simultaneously. That’s essentially the same as transferring the information who’s data is both 0 and 1. The important thing here is that the transfer was quick and therefore no data was lost, something that has puzzled scientists in the past.

The breakthrough here has given the team cause for celebration. As we already know, the transfer of quantum objects within a computer or over a network is significantly faster tha classical computing. Steady but vital progress like this might see us teleporting our pets to the vets in years to come.
